Good morning. I’m back. I didn’t want you to think I forgot about you or my blog. We are back at Proud Lake Recreation Area in Wixom. The campgrounds have been fairly empty during the week days and then fill up for the weekends. Now that the kids are out of school we should be seeing more families camping during the week.
We are just about done with all the doctor visits. Yah. It seems that’s all we do is make our plans around a doctor visit or test. It will be nice to put this stuff behind us and be able to make our plans for the fall and winter.
We have no idea where we are going or what we will be doing once we leave here. We know we will be visiting with our children in Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois. We don’t know in what order, but we do know that is where we will be heading. After that it is all up in the air.
We would love to go through the mountains but neither of us are comfortable with the driving we’ve done so far on the nobs and big hills. I don’t know how we would ever drive through anything higher. Our motorhome is not diesel. We have a gas engine and we tow our car. We are afraid we would asking to much of Winnie’s engine to go up and down the mountains. We just don’t know.
We have enjoyed some really nice summer weather. It’s funny that wherever we went on our winter adventure we didn’t have the nice weather we were hoping for. We kept hearing “this is the worst winter we’ve had in years”. Now that we are back where we started we are finally having beautiful days. We have had some rain, some cooler days and some very hot days but for the most part we have had perfect summer days.
We are sorry to hear about the flooding and heavy rain they had in some of the areas of Texas we visited. Our friend Steve told us they got 10″ of rain in a very short period of time. That is a lot of rain!
I have been able to get my reading fix in. I am now on “P” is for Peril of Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone series. I will hopefully be able to complete the alphabet before we leave here.
Well, that’s about it for now. Have a nice weekend. Loving our lifestyle.
Until next time,
Good morning. Our warm weather has arrived. It was a warm one yesterday and I was a bit concerned about how warm it would be for sleeping. We have air-conditioning in Winnie, but with only 30 amps here, in this state park, we cannot use it as we continually blow circuits. No worries. It cooled down and we enjoyed a comfortable nights sleep.
I mentioned the 30 amps in this state park, Brighton Recreation Area. We like this state park, despite the lack of 50 amps, for few reasons. The park itself is close to family, healthcare providers and shopping. But, it is also a nice park to kick back and relax in and it has a good sandy beach that is in walking distance from all of the park sites for the kids to enjoy.
The other campground that we use during our stay here in Michigan, is in Wixom. It is also a state park, Proud Lake Recreation Area. That campground has a few 50 amp sites for us with larger units and it is just as nice for relaxing. Proud Lake is known for having many trails for hiking and biking. It is also known for being a great place to go canoeing. The park even has a canoe rental area set up in the park. On the down side, it is not a good park for the kids to go swimming. The beach area (if that is what you want to call it) is all mud and no sand.
Because Brighton has the nice beach for the kids, we prefer to be here on warm days so the kids can enjoy their time with us. It is also a few dollars cheaper than Proud Lake. This weekend is going to be a hot one! Our highs are upper 80’s to 90º. The kids should have a great time. Now just to keep the rain and mosquitos at bay for the entire weekend.
This morning we will joining many others in the grocery store to stock up with goodies. We will be doing some grilling for sure. I also have a few books in at the library to pick up. I don’t know how come I have never read any of Sue Grafton’s books, but I’m glad I found a series to start on. I am almost finished with “A” is for Alibi.
This is Memorial Day weekend. It is a time to remember those who died while serving in the military fighting for our freedom. We decided to decorate the outside of Winnie a little to show our appreciation for those who served and those who are now serving in our country’s armed forces. Thank you.
Loving our lifestyle. Have a great weekend and safe travels.
Until next time,
Good morning. Last night was the first night in a very long time that we opened a window for sleeping. I love the fresh air. We shouldn’t even need a coat or sweater today with a high around 80.
Day 74. We got on the road yesterday about 8:30 am. There were a number of different routes we could have taken to get to our destination, South Padre Island. I decided to take the western route, which was mostly expressway, going through the major cities. I chose to go this way because I figured on our way back north we would be taking the eastern route and I want us to see as much of this beautiful country as possible.
This route was not fun and exciting. We went through construction areas with the concrete barricades, which are extremely stressful, all along I-35. Taking this route we went through Austin and San Antonio and all of the towns in-between. It was heavy traffic all most the entire day.
We didn’t find a rest area/picnic area until a little after 1 pm. My poor husband was starving and the break was greatly needed to relieve some of the stress from the traffic and construction.
Once back on the road the drive was much better; no construction and a lot less traffic. We stopped again to fill up our propane tank which should last us the entire month of February. It was $3.09 a gallon! That’s the most we’ve had to pay per gallon yet. Gas prices are back up too. Ugh.
We could tell we had finally made it south. The temperature was warm enough to open our windows. We also saw our first cactus and our first oil rig.
After 312 miles, we made it to our destination for the night at 4:15 pm. That is later than we like to stop when setting up someplace, but when we stay in a parking lot it is just right. We are staying in the Corpus Christi Walmart parking lot off I-37 & US 77, exit 14. We were happy to get a spot that was along the grassy edge of the parking lot. It makes it so much nicer to be able to have the bedroom slideout out. We were later joined by 3 other campers. A trucker had arrived before us. We like it when we are joined by other overnighters. I guess there is safety in numbers.
As I mentioned previously, we like to shop at the places where we stay overnight for free and we had a few items on our list to get. Patty Pepper is not happy to be left behind and lets us know. Just look at that sad face below. We also are far enough south that our palm trees are back.
Our Walmart Parking Spot
Our drive today should only be about 3 – 3 1/2 hours. Then fun in the sun and on the beach. I’ve got to find myself a good book to read. Loving this lifestyle.
Until next time,
